Felsenmeer

Felsenmeer, or literally "rock sea" is a landform created through cyclical frost shattering of rock at high elevations.

Water seeps into cracks in rock, freezes as temperatures cool, which pushes the rock apart as the ice expands. Over a large area, this creates a landscape of large boulders which could be aptly described as a "rock sea".
