Mangroves

Mangroves are specialized coastal forests that grow in tidal zones in tropical climates. Mangroves, like other riparian vegetation do major work in the protection of their environment against erosion. Complex root systems lock sediment in place, encouraging deposition over degradation. They are also forces for geochemical filtration, often acting as sinks for runoff, and heavy metal pollutants, preventing the contamination of the larger water bodies within which they reside.
