Riparian Vegetation
Riparian vegetation is plant life growing at the edges of water bodies. Just like vegetation on hillslopes, dunes, and other landforms, riparian vegetation is vital to preserving landforms and protecting them from erosion. Plant matter stabilizes channel banks, but it also improves water quality by absorbing excess nutrients and keeping water temperatures lower through shade.
