A sugarloaf is a tall cone of rock with rounded top, named for its resemblance to a sugarloaf (a lump of sugar shaped like a rounded cone). Sugarloafs are created through differential erosion. sugarloafs are the more weathering-resistant remnants of a previously flat-ish uplifted landscape. Over time, the softer, more erosion-prone rock is weathered away, leaving the sugarloaf behind.
